The widow of PC Dave Phillips wept in court as footage was shown of his final moments before he was hit by a stolen pick up truck in Wallasey.

The 34 year old dad of two, was hit and killed in Wallasey in October last year. 19 year old Clayton Williams is on trial for his murder.

The footage shown in court shows the pursuit of the truck on Dock Road North moments before PC Phillips was hit. The truck steers to the right before hitting the officer.

The Prosecution say it is powerful evidence of someone acting with an intention to at the very least cause serious injury, if not kill.

Clayton Williams had other choices say the Prosecution. Neil Unsworth Q.C said "He could have stopped, driven over a stop stick, could have turned sharply to the right, or performed a u-turn. PC Phillips had little choice, and he stood not much of a chance"

Clayton Williams denies murder and attempted grevious bodily harm to PC Phillips' colleague PC Birkett.

The court heard claims from the defendant that the incident was an unintentional accident.

Mr Neil Unsworth for the prosecution said:

"The harsh reality is that for all the defendant's varying accounts, he chose to drive off the carriageway"

"He chose to drive towards PC Phillips, a person he could clearly see. He chose to turn sharply to the left. He chose to drive directly at Pc Birkett. He chose to flee the scene and he chose to evade arrest"

"PC Phillips had little choice. The defendant denies that he intended to injure either officer and that this was all an unfortunate accident.''

The trial was adjourned until Wednesday morning.
