The first named storm of the year to hit the north west - Storm Aileen - arrived on Merseyside in the early hours.

The worst of the winds are expected to ease this morning, but strong gusts could still cause disruption for the rush hour.

A tree fell and blocked railway tracks at Hooton disrupting the Ellsemere Port line. The disruption lasted several hours.

No Mersey Ferries will be running today.
