Staff held at knifepoint at Wirral off licence

Police are investigating after staff were held at knifepoint at an off licence in Prenton yesterday.

Merseyside Police is appealing for help from the public after a robbery at an off licence in Prenton. Just after 7.45pm yesterday (Sunday, 5 June) officers were called to Booze Direct, Heathfield Road by a member of the public to a report that two men had entered the premises and threatened staff, demanding cash. One of the men was reported to be holding a kitchen knife. One member of staff sustained a small cut to the hand. The offenders then made off on foot in the direction of Kingsland Road, before turning onto Albert Road and then Carlton Road. They are both described as being of slim build and around 5ft 8in tall. One was wearing a black Nike hooded top and both their faces were covered. House to house enquiries have been carried out and CCTV opportunities are being explored. An investigation into the full circumstances surrounding this incident is continuing. Detective Inspector Paul Denn said: "Thankfully incidents of this nature are few and far between in Wirral. The force is absolutely determined to crack down on attempts to rob people trying to go about their lives. "I can reassure people we are doing everything we can to trace and arrest those involved. I would urge anyone who may have seen anyone suspiciously in the area at around the time of the incident to get in touch."
