Published 19th Jan 2016

St Helens Hospital has been rated as one of just three hospitals across the nation as outstanding.

The Care Quality Commision (CQC) also rated Whiston Hospital as 'good with outstanding features' establishing St Helen's and Knowsley NHS Trust as one of the best performing Trusts in the country.

Chief Inspector of Hospitals, Professor Sir Mike Richards praised the exemplary patient centred care when examining the sites.

He said: "Patient safety and positive experiences were key priorities for the Trust and underpinned all aspects of service planning and delivery."

The team of CQC inspectors included experienced professionals and senior NHS management who came to their overall conclusion. The team applauded both St Helens and Whiston Hospital for their Outpatient and Diagnostic Imaging Services, deeming it outstanding and making it the only service of this kind in the country to ever be awarded this rating.

Ann Marr, Chief Executive of St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust said: "this is recognition for all our staff who work so hard to provide such a high level of care and service to our patients."

The other two hospitals rated outstanding are Salford Royal Hospital and Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey.
