Seven people have been hurt in a serious crash on the M6.

The motorway was closed in both directions between Standish and Leyland all throughout the evening and for much of the night.

Police now say seven people suffered injuries, although none are thought to be life-threatening

We're also told the collision caused considerable damage to the central reservation and the HGV has also shed its load.

Although repair work is ongoing and are likely to go into this evening, two lanes on the northbound carriageway and one lane on the southbound carriageway have now been re-opened.
