An eleven-year-old boy from Scunthorpe says learning about knife crime at school has helped him and his friends understand the dangers.

Kade Hearn found a zombie knife on his way to class, just days after attending a county lines awareness session in a session.

He was taught about the risks of knives by children's author Christina Gabbitas which resulted in him stopping his sister from touching the weapon and getting hurt.

Christina has been delivering important sessions around county lines and knife crime

He says finding the weapon made him realise what he needed to do, Kade said:

"I just rang my mum and told her straight away and told my sister not to touch it because I didn't want anything to happen to her."

His mum Cynthia says education in school is key - she says the ban isn't enough on its own. Cynthia said:

"I'm really pleased that Kade got that education in a way that was tailored, that he's actually engaged with it. There's actually been another incident since then where he's witnessed someone with a knife and he's had to tell me and then contact the police.

"He's not afraid and he knows the right things to do.

Commenting on the ban, Cynthia added:

"We ban things, but we know that you ban things and they're still around, and I don't feel that we are doing enough. I don't feel the government's doing enough, band in secondary schools - they don't seem to be taking the opportunity to reinforce the message."
