As Christmas comes alive in Liverpool, retail bosses are welcoming calls for people to get a covid test BEFORE heading into town over the festive period.

Government guidance in England is recommending everyone takes a lateral flow before going in to crowded and enclosed spaces with the focus on shopping centres and social gatherings like office parties.

Donna Howitt from Liverpool One agrees :

"We are open air here with big wide open spaces so I do think it gives people confidence to be out and about in public but we are not through this yet and it is about everyone playing their part and being sensible.

"It's great today seeing shoppers out and about and it almost feels like normal but this feel slike the right thing to do and remember those people working in retail as well, the vast majority working behind a plastic screen and they're doing that for a reason so be responsible and play your part".
