Retail bosses praise shoppers for keeping Liverpool safe

Ahead of the first weekend since the lockdown restrictions were eased to allow non-essential shops to reopen, retail bosses are praising shoppers for making Liverpool a safe place to be.

Since stores reopened earlier this week, footfall has been high, with projections showing Monday alone was as busy as a Saturday the run up to Christmas.

With more people expected to come into town on Saturday and Sunday, Donna Howitt from Liverpool One has been telling us that a more relaxed and responsible way of shopping is making a difference.

She said:

"They've been locked down for so long that they are more than happy to come out and enjoy the fresh air. People are willing to wait if they need to, they appreciate that face masks do need to be worn in stores, so the responsibility that everybody has shown by staying away for the last few months they are still be responsible now that they can enjoy shopping again."

With preparations underway for a potentially busier Saturday and Sunday A SMART testing centre is open on South John Street - next to the Apple Store.

Donna continued:

"You can use that testing unit and that's what's really important this time around; people can start to move back to some sort of normality with people still getting regularly tested to ensure we don't go back to where we have been".
