Reds and Blues donate record amount of foodbank donations at Merseyside Derby
Red and Blues are being praised for donating a record breaking amount of food at last weekend's Merseyside Derby
A staggering 2.2 tonnes of non-perishable foods and toiletries was collected by Fans Supporting Foodbanks volunteers with all donations going to the North Liverpool Foodbank.
The record collection is a testament to the joint collaboration of both football Club’s and the wider community coming together to help those in need, with donations made by both local and international fans.
The items collected mean North Liverpool Foodbank will have an extra 158 emergency three-day food parcels to give to families in need. Providing over 6,300 meals for 630 local people in crisis within the L4, L5 and L6 areas.
North Liverpool Foodbank Co-Ordinator, Victoria Ponsonby-Martin, said: “This is a huge amount, and proves what our city’s football fans can achieve when they come together.
“We would like to thank the Fans Supporting foodbank volunteers, the Red Neighbours team and all the fans who donated; this is going to make a massive difference, particularly during our busy Christmas period."
The surge in donations was observed just days after LFC’s Andy Robertson’s video appeal to promote the fantastic efforts and much needed services provided by staff and volunteers at the North Liverpool Foodbank.
The Red Neighbours programme supports the Fans Supporting Foodbanks initiative and hosts foodbank collections around Anfield Stadium at all Premier League home games, as part of its dedication to tackle food poverty in the areas surrounding Anfield.
Home and away fans can donate to Fans Supporting Foodbanks at every Liverpool FC Premier League home fixture, by dropping off any non-perishable food donations at the foodbank collection points, which are located on Anfield Road, next to the Club's Family Park, and inside the new Anfield superstore
