Recap: Emergency Services Tackle Chemical Incident In Widnes

Fire crews have now left the scene of the incident in Widnes after an alert on the Halebank Industrial Estate.

People were advised to stay inside their homes and keep their windows closed.

There had been a release of chlorine gas but this was confined to the surface water drainage system.

Firefighters safely flushed the drains and it has been confirmed that there is no longer any trace of the product.

Advice to stya inside was lifted just after 5pm on Thursday afternoon and all cordons were removed.

Emergency services have worked throughout the day to deal with the incident on Pickering Road. Releases of chlorine gas were confirmed, but were confined to the surface water drainage system.

There is no longer considered to be any risk to the public’s health and all previous advice and cordons have been lifted.
