Police say a pregnant woman was lucky to escape unhurt after an object was dropped off a bridge over the New Ferry bypass earlier this month, damaging her car

At around 5.30pm on Wednesday, 14 September, Hannah Mapp from Ellesmere Port was driving her Vauxhall Corsa on the A41 towards Bromborough when she saw a group of around five schoolchildren holding a u-shaped orange and black object over a footbridge running over the bypass.

As she drove closer to the bridge, the object was dropped from the bridge and hit the bonnet of the car, causing Hannah to swerve and causing damage to the car. CCTV enquiries are ongoing in the area.

Neighbourhood Inspector Kate Wilkinson said: "The sheer recklessness and stupidity of this incident is clear to see and I dread to think what might have happened to Hannah if the object had hit her windscreen"

"I would urge anyone in the community who has information to identify the offenders to do the right thing and come forward, as the consequences can be catastrophic.

"We are already doing lots of work with local schools to highlight the dangers of this behaviour, but I would also urge parents, guardians, teachers and friends of any schoolchildren around the area to help us spread this message."
