Police have found a large amount of what's thought to be deactivated firearms, CS spray, smoke grenades & a taser at a property in Wallasey

Officers carried out a warrant at an address in the town yesterday.

A 42-year-old man from Wallasey was arrested on suspicion of possession of Section 5 firearms.

He remains in police custody at this time.

The items have been recovered and will be forensically examined.

Chief Inspector Paul Sutcliffe said: "While these firearms are thought to be deactivated, in the wrong hands they have the potential to be very dangerous, as they could be capable of being reactivated for criminal purposes.

"Just removing one weapon from our streets means that there is one less chance of it being used to seriously injure or kill someone.

"I want our communities to be reassured that tackling the issue of gun crime is a priority for the force and we are carrying out activity such as this day in day out, to remove guns from the streets of Merseyside."
