It's part of a day of action which is taking place across Europe - officers are focusing on areas in the region voted for by residents on twitter

Here's the places speed checks will be taking place today

Sefton

Brooms Cross Road, Stanley Road, Dunningsbridge Road (Copy Lane to Switch Island), Ravenmeols Lane

Liverpool

Queens Drive, Breck Road, Walton Hall Avenue, Menlove Avenue, East Prescot Road, Woolton Road, Muirhead Avenue East, Rathbone Road, The Strand, Church Road (Wavertree)

St Helens/Knowsley

Longview Drive (Huyton), Higher Road, Marshall’s Cross Road, Rainford By Pass, Jackson Street, Roby Road, Dunriding Lane, Scholes Lane, Standish Street, Bleak Hill Road

Wirral

Merseyside officers will use handheld speed detection devices and unmarked video motorcycles and cars. Last year, nearly 2.5 million cars were stopped across Europe with 95% of drivers adhering to speed limits.

Sergeant Dave Yorke from the Roads Policing team said: "The purpose of tomorrow's activity is prevention and reduction of risk. We are publishing the exact locations of each checkpoint in advance so drivers think ahead about the speed at which they travel, both to protect themselves and other road users. We have been listening to our communities through social media and will be targeting those areas highlighted to us.

"Drivers often look at traffic operations as easy money-making schemes for the police, but the opposite is true. We want to educate people about the dangers of speeding, not hit them in the pocket."
