Police appeal after Huyton shooting
Detectives investigating a shooting in Huyton are appealing to the community to come forward with information
Detectives investigating a shooting in Huyton are appealing to the community to come forward with information. Emergency services were called to Reeds Road just before 2pm yesterday to reports of a disturbance on the road. It is thought the 57-year-old victim was shot after becoming involved in an argument with a group of about four males near to a Mitsubishi Shogun. The victim was taken to hospital where he is being treated for a gunshot injury to his right leg, which is not thought to be life threatening. Temporary Superintendent Nicholas Gunatilleke said:
“I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time, or who witnessed this incident to call us. “The full circumstances surrounding this incident are unclear, but we believe the victim was working on a property on the road, when he became involved in an argument with a group of males. One of the group then left the scene before returning a short time later on a scooter and shooting the victim in the leg. He added:
“I’m sure the community would agree that for someone to get a gun to resolve an argument is despicable and they, like us, recognise the need to get anyone who is willing to pick up a gun in this way off our streets. “These offenders have no regard for anyone other than themselves and it’s through sheer luck that this man wasn’t more seriously injured.
"We are determined to trace the offender and any associates – the Matrix Serious Organised Crime investigation team has launched an investigation, the scene has been secured for a full forensic examination and the Mitsubishi car recovered for examination by specialists. CCTV is being sought and house-to-house enquiries are underway. “While we are relentless in our pursuit of gun crime offenders, we cannot do this without the support of the community, so I would again ask anyone with any information about this incident, no matter how small, to get in contact via the Gun crime hotline 0800 230 0600 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
