Police appeal for information following Warrington armed robbery

Convenience store in Burtonwood targeted

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and video footage following an armed robbery at a convenience store in Warrington.

At around 10.25pm on Wednesday 30 March two men entered the Co-Op store on Chapel Lane, Burtonwood.

The pair, one of whom was armed with a hammer, threatened staff and ordered them to get onto the floor.

They then stole a quantity of cigarettes and cash from behind the counter before fleeing the scene on foot, travelling down an alleyway opposite the store.

Both of the offenders were describes as men with local accents, who were tall and of medium build.

The first man was wearing a balaclava, a blue/grey Berghaus bubble coat with, dark jogging pants and black trainers. He was also carrying a hammer.

The second man was also wearing a balaclava, a dark Berghaus jacket and black trainers. He was also carrying a black bag and a white canvas sack.

Detective Sergeant Joe McNally, of Warrington CID, said: “This incident has left the store workers understandably shaken and we are committed to doing all that we can to identify the people responsible.

“As part of our ongoing investigation, we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and believes they may have witnessed the offenders entering or fleeing the store.

“The same goes for anyone with any CCTV or dashcam footage that may be relevant to our investigation.
