Detectives are appealing for witnesses after two men were stabbed in Kirkby on Sunday afternoon.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses after two men were stabbed in Kirkby on Sunday afternoon.
The first victim, who is 18-years-old and from the Runcorn area, was found lying by the side of the road in Cheddar Grove by a resident.
Officers believe he was attacked by several men who pulled alongside him in a dark green Land Rover and got out armed with weapons. The victim suffered cuts to his upper body, foot, ankle and thigh as well as a suspected fractured pelvis. He was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition and is currently undergoing surgery for his injuries.
The second victim, who is 19-years-old old and from Liverpool, was found injured outside a house in nearby Ryecote by a passer-by. He too suffered slash wounds and remains in hospital for treatment. Both men are believed to have been injured in the same incident by the same offenders shortly after 2pm.
Detectives from Knowsley CID are treating it as a targeted attack and are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish a motive and catch the people responsible.
They are keen to hear from anyone who saw a green 4x4 Landrover-type vehicle in the Kirkby area at around the time of the attack.
Patrols have been stepped up in the area to provide a reassuring police presence to the community.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Baker said:
"This was an appalling attack on two young men in broad daylight by a group of armed men. They arrived in a green Landrover and bundled the first victim into bushes by the side of the road before assaulting him. He has suffered some very nasty injuries and will have to undergo surgery.
"Thankfully they are not life-threatening and the second victim’s injuries are relatively minor and he should make a full recovery.
"We are working hard to understand why the pair have been attacked and by who and we will do all we can to catch the perpetrators.
"I need to hear from anyone who saw this green Landrover in the area before or after the attack or anyone who knows where it is now. Your information, no matter how small, could be an important piece of our investigation.”
