Plan to transform docklands revealed
Liverpool docklands could be transformed into creative hub
A run-down area of Liverpool’s docklands could be Britain’s next great creative hot spot.
Ambitious plans for ten rundown streets in Liverpool's north docks have been proposed, which could see the area transformed into a "Cultural Enterprise Industry Hub".
A recommendation is going to Liverpool City Council next week to approve the new vision which will revolutionise the warehouses and buildings around Stanley Dock.
The council report has identified huge potential for growth with £260 million having been invested in new developments within the Atlantic Corridor boundary since January 2012.
Joe Anderson, Mayor of Liverpool, said: “Liverpool’s Atlantic Corridor has the potential to become one of the jewels in the north of England’s economy. It’s been a sleeping giant for far too long and now thanks to work with partners such as Peel and Harcourt we have for the first time in generations a plan to resurrect its fortunes.
The council’s ambition is to blend historic buildings with new developments similar to the Baltic Triangle, attracting new investment, business and jobs.** **
