Petrol Bomb Hurled At Police In Anfield
Three police officers have been treated in hospital after a suspected petrol bomb was hurled at them in Anfield.
Shortly before 4pm officers attended a property on Lampeter Road and executed a warrant.
A man from the property made his way onto the roof of the Dockers Club, Townsend Lane.
As a precautionary measure officers cordoned off the area and spoke to him in an effort to persuade him down.
A 25-year-old man, from Anfield, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply controlled drugs (Class A).
Officers who were in attendance at scene were then subject to an assault when a device was thrown at officers by a small group of males. Three officers received minor burns in the incident and have been taken to hospital for treatment.
Assistant Chief Constable Nikki Holland said: "Thankfully the officers were not seriously injured during this incident but this incident highlights the dangers officers face every single day, putting themselves in harm’s way to deal with dangerous situations.
"Police are on the front line every day protecting our communities and this incident serves as a reminder of the very real dangers that police officers face to keep us all safe day in, day out.
"Acts of violence against our officers such as this will not be tolerated and we will make every effort to bring those people responsible to justice."
Enquiries are ongoing into this incident and patrols have been stepped up in the area. CCTV opportunities are being explored and house to house enquiries are being carried.
