Dog owners on Merseyside are being reminded to take care of their pets in the warm weather - after a dog was found in a car in Southport suffering from suspected heat exhaustion.
Police were called to the rear of the Bold Hotel on Lord Street at 7.55pm yesterday evening after reports a greyhound in a parked car was suffering.
The dog has been taken to a vets for treatment is continuing to recover. Police say the owners are set to voluntarily attend for police questioning on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
Inspector Graham Fisher of Southport Police said: "
“I would like to remind all pet owners to take extra care of animals in hot weather. Do not even leave a pet in a vehicle for a minute, in case you are called away unexpectedly. It doesn't’t take long for the heat to take effect and the consequences can be catastrophic.”
