A number of homes had to be evacuated in Bootle on Monday night (30 September) after heavy rain led to flooding.

Around 40 people were forced to leave their homes in Bowles Street, with firefighters using a sled to rescue people.

Those who did leave were taken to a local community centre for refuge, and several flood warnings are still in place on Tuesday morning (01 October).

It came amid a yellow weather warning for heavy rain, which led to disruption across much of the north west.

Roads flooded and a lorry fell off a bridge on the M6 near Warrington, leading to a huge rescue operation.

Trains were also delayed between Liverpool and Manchester after Warring Central station flooded.

Merseyrail is also expecting to run replacement buses between Chester and Ellesmere Port on Tuesday morning.

Respite is expected in the next few days however, with the Met Office forecasting the back end of the week will be drier.
