Pedestrian dies after being hit by car in South Liverpool

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in Aigburth.

A man has died following a serious road traffic collision in Aigburth.

Emergency services were called to Aigburth Road close to the Territorial Army Centre shortly after 6.50pm on Tuesday 19th April, to reports a white Volkswagen Golf car had been in collision with a male pedestrian before hitting a lampost and flipping onto its roof.

The male pedestrian suffered multiple injuries and was treated at the scene, where he later died.

The driver of the car, a 26-year-old man from Widnes, was been taken to hospital to be treated for what are described as superficial injuries. He has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and taken to a police station in Merseyside to be interviewed.

Formal identification of the pedestrian has yet to take place and officers are currently making efforts to trace his next of kin.
