Parents of Alfie Evans to appeal High Court decision to switch off his life support
£10'000 has been raised for their legal battle
The family of Alfie Evans are appealing against a High Court ruling allowing doctors to switch off his life support.
18 month old Alfie is in a coma at Alder Hey, with a mystery illness which is destroying his brain. Doctors say there's nothing more they can do for him, and continuing to treat him was "unkind, unfair and inhumane"
His parents want to take him to Italy for further tests
On Tuesday a Judge sitting at the High Court ruled that the little boy should be able to "die with dignity"
Alder Hey is set to withdraw ventilation on Friday. It's after Mr Justice Hayden said he "accepted the medical evidence" which showed further treatment was futile
After the ruling, Tom Evans, Alfie's dad said "My son has been handed a death sentence. No one is taking my boy away from me"#
Now £10'000 has been raised for the family to be able to challenge the ruling, among those who have donated is Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright
