Murder investigation underway after death of man in Widnes

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Widnes. Shortly before 5pm on Monday 16 May police were called to Ann Street West following the discovery of a man with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital by ambulance where he sadly died a short time later. Next of kin have been informed but formal identification has not yet taken place. Police have now launched a murder investigation and enquiries are ongoing in the local area. These include house-to-house enquiries, CCTV enquiries and any forensic enquiries. Detective Inspector Steve Jones said: “At this stage this appears to be an isolated incident. We are doing everything we can to establish the exact circumstances of what has happened and locate whoever is responsible. I would urge anyone who may have witnessed what happened or has any information, which could assist officers with their enquiries, to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 628 of 16 May. If you do not want to speak to police then information can also be left anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.” Local officers remain in the area to provide reassurance to the local community. Anyone with any issues or concerns is urged to speak to an officer.
