Murder investigation launched following death of two year old child in Birkenhead

A man & woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a two year child at a house in Birkenhead

The North West Ambulance Service were called to Woodville Road at around 2.30pm on Wednesday. When paramedics arrived they found a two-year-old boy, who was unresponsive, and carried out CPR.

The child was then taken to Arrowe Park Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short while later.

The force has implemented the protocols for a sudden unexpected death in infancy and a detailed examination of the circumstances is being carried out.

Detectives arrested a 28-year-old man from Birkenhead on suspicion of murder and a 24-year-old woman, from Birkenhead on suspicion of murder and child neglect.

They have both been taken to police stations on Merseyside where they continue to be questioned by detectives.

Two other children (aged two and three years), who lived in the property where the incident occurred, have been medically assessed and are in the care of Wirral Council’s Children’s Services.

House-to-house inquiries have been carried out in the area and detectives are appealing to anyone who may have information to contact
