Murder charge after man assaulted in West Derby last month dies

A man from West Derby who was assaulted last month has died, police say.

At around 1am on Wednesday 24 January, Paul Lavery, 58, was taken to hospital after he was found outside a property on Eaton Road with a serious head injury. He has since passed away in hospital.

Paul’s family are being supported by specialist officers while our enquiries continue.

Liam Anthony Elms, 40, of Whiston Lane in Huyton was previously charged with attempted murder, criminal damage, assaulting an emergency worker and resisting arrest.

Elms has now been charged with murder.

He remains in custody and will next appear at Liverpool Crown Court tomorrow, Wednesday 21 February.
