Murder arrest following 'unexplained death' in Southport
The body of a man in his 70s was found at a house on Sunday
Merseyside Police have confirmed they're investigating the death of a man at a house in Southport.
The force was contacted at 11.50pm on Sunday 22 December following concern for a man at a house in Braemar Avenue. Paramedics attended and found the body of a man, aged in his 70s.
A post-mortem will take place to establish the cause of the death, which police are currently treating as 'unexplained'.
A 52-year-old man's been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
Police say an investigation is underway and house-to-house, witness and CCTV enquiries are being carried out in the local area.
Detective Inspector Alan Nuttall said: “Enquiries are in the very early stages as we seek to establish the circumstances of what has taken place and we would urge people not to speculate while those enquiries remain ongoing.
“We are carrying out a number of lines of enquiry and would ask anyone who was in the area of Braemar Avenue on Sunday night or saw or heard anything or has any information which could assist our investigation to contact us.
“We are also keen to speak to any one in the area who has CCTV that covers the area of Braemar Avenue or any taxi or delivery drivers or motorists who were in the vicinity who think they may have captured something significant on their dash cam.”
