Mum's Hurt After Son's Killer Has Sentence Reduced

The mum of Anthony Walker killed in a racially motivated attack in Huyton says she's been left hurt and let down after one of his murderers had his sentenced reduced.

27 year old Michael Barton was given a life sentence for his part in killing the 18 year old in 2005.

Barton and cousin Paul Taylor were jailed for Anthony's murder.

They went on the run after the killing, and Barton's brother, footballer Joey Barton appealed for their return.

A judge yesterday reduced Michael's 18 year sentence by one year.

Mr Justice Mitting ruled: "His transformation from a racist thug into the sensible realistic young man described by Ms Hill satisfies the high threshold for a reduction in the minimum term imposed by a sentencing judge on a young offender."

Speaking to Radio City News, Gee Walker said: "My family and I, our hearts have been ripped out and stamped on once again"

"It's heart-rending. The way I see it, if someone makes a promise I expect them to carry it for. To go back and change your mind, that's what's most upsetting"
