A Liverpool mum trying to get her daughter to America for leukemia treatment has revealed her heartbreak - after being told the the cost to send her to the States has trebled.

A Liverpool mum trying to get her daughter to America for leukemia treatment has revealed her heartbreak - after being told the the cost to send her to the States has trebled.

14 year old Katie Wright from Wavertree, who has Downs Syndrome, is battling the illness for a second time.

Originally her family believed 140 thousand pounds would be enough to send her to a specialist hospital in Seattle - But now doctors have got in touch - and said the treatment will actually cost $455'000 - which is nearly £370'000

In an email seen by Radio City News, Seattle Children's Hospital said that Katie's family need a deposit of $455'000 (£365'905) if she meets the medical requirements for the PLAT - 02 clinical trial

Katie's mum Rena says "When we first found out - we first thought it was a mistake."

"We thought there's no way that couldn't have gone up to that huge vast amount, but when we read into the details, they gave us a real breakdown of it and that apparently the case."

"They've reduced the side effects of the risks for the children by 50%"
