Hospital bosses in Merseyside say they're preparing for the worst case scenario this Winter.

It comes as the number of patients needing treatment for Covid continues to climb across the region, as well as other things like flu and the childhood respiratory virus RSV.

New data shows 80 people were admitted in Liverpool alone over the latest seven day period.

Dr Nikki Stevenson is Medical Director at Arrowe Park on the Wirral :

"We are preparing for the worst case scenarios; increased numbers of covid and needing more critical care beds, dealing with flu because those patients have to be kept seperate from those with Covid and for the children with RSV, the virus that affects their lungs.

"As well as that we'd like to keep out operations going becuase people have been waiting a very long time.

"The number of patients with covid has risen and we've noticed a significant increase in teh last couple of weeks. It's going to be a challenge for our staff and many of them are already tired so it's quite a comprehensive plan. We are prepared for the worst and expecting a difficult time".
