Mayor urges Everton to 'crack on' with stadium plans - after Council approve funding deal
Council cabinet has approved plans to set up company to help fund it
Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson says he hopes Everton will now push forward with plans to build a new stadium on the city's waterfront - after the Council approved a deal for a new company to help them pay for it
The Council's cabinet agreed to act as a guarantor for what's known as a Special Purpose Vehicle to help raise ÂŁ300m for a new ground at Bramley Moore Dock
It comes a week after the club and Peel Holdings announced they have agreed terms of the purchase of the land in North Liverpool
Joe Anderson said "The deal supporting the club so they can do a deal with others is no done, so the ball is very much in their court"
"It's really up to them, it's not for us the dictate that"
Speaking at today's cabinet meeting - Anderson said that the plans would help generate ÂŁ4.4m a year for the Council
He said "This is great news for Liverpool. A new chapter for Everton Football Club. This can be a catalyst for regeneration.”
