An investigation is underway after a man was shot at a car dealership in Speke yesterday.

Emergency services were called to Speke Hall Motors on Speke Hall Road at around 3.10pm following reports that a man had been shot. The victim, a 34-year-old man, who works at the premises, has been taken to hospital where he is being treated for shotgun wounds to his arm and shoulder.

At this early stage of the investigation the motive for the attack is unknown, although it is believed to be targeted. It is believed that the offenders, who were wearing masks, turned up in a black car and then shot the victim. The car was last seen heading towards Hillfoot Avenue.

Detective Sergeant Howard Rubbery, from the Matrix Serious Organised Crime team, said: "The majority of our residents on Merseyside are decent, law abiding people, who are sickened by the complete and utter disregard shown by those who are prepared to use firearms on our streets.

"I would like to appeal to our communities for information which could help us to take positive action against those involved in gun crime and make our streets safer. If you have any information about those involved in gun crime , or where these people are storing their weapons call the specialist Matrix team on 0151 777 5687, or Crimestoppers (which is anonymous) on 0800 555 111, no-one will know that you have made that call. We will act on all information."

Witnesses are being spoken to and Crime Scene Investigators are carrying out forensic examinations at the scene. Detectives will also be examining CCTV footage and talking to local businesses on the business park in a bid to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Officers are particularly interested in speaking to members of the public who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area prior to the incident.

Detectives from the specialist Matrix Serious Organised Crime Team are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information which could help with their inquiries, to contact the gun crime hotline on 0800 230 0600, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
