Police are appealing for information after a man was left needing stitches following an armed robbery at his home in Toxteth.

At around 1.30am on Saturday 4th June, a man and woman were asleep in bed at home in Cedar Grove when they were woken by the sound of two offenders forcing entry to the property. The male victim investigated what the noise was before going back to the bedroom. The offenders then gained entry to the bedroom, causing cuts to the man's hand which required stitching. They demanded cash as well as making an untidy search of the house before leaving the scene on foot with a quantity of cash. The first offender is described as having his face covered but with brown eyes and brown skin around his eyes. He is described as being in his mid-twenties with a slim build and was approximately 6ft tall. He was wearing a black jacket, black pants, black gloves and was carrying a black and yellow handled axe. The man is described as having a Manchester accent. The second offender is described as being white with a tanned complexion, in his early twenties, with large build and around 5ft 7in tall. He had mousey brown coloured hair and was wearing a hooded grey jacket, black pants and a pair of blue work gloves. He was carrying what is described as a machete and a large knife. Extensive enquiries are currently on-going, including house to house and the reviewing of CCTV. Detective Constable John McIntyre said: "This was a particularly nasty incident which left both victims extremely shaken and left the man requiring hospital treatment for his injuries. "This was carried out against a couple in their own home as they slept, where they have every right to feel safe. "Thankfully, incidents such as this are very rare and I want to reassure people that we are doing everything we can to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and to trace and arrest the people responsible. "I would urge people in the area to cast their minds back to the early hours of Saturday, 4 June and consider if they saw anything suspicious. If you have any information which could help us, get in touch. No matter how trivial you think that information is, it could prove vital to the investigation."
