Man hit by car in Aigburth

A 69-year-old man has died

Merseyside Police believe a man who died in Aigburth over the weekend had been lying in the road before he was hit by a car.

The 69-year-old was on Ullet Road when it happened on Saturday night (25 September).

Officers were called at 9.45pm by the driver of a Seat Ibiza who had collided with the man.

The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting the police.

Ullet Road has been closed while forensic examinations are carried out at the scene.

DI Ben Dyer, said:

"An investigation is underway to find out what has happened. We believe the man who died was lying in the road when the incident happened. We are currently carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area and looking at CCTV footage to establish what happened. The family of the deceased has been informed and is being supported by specialist Family Liaison Officers from our Roads Policing Unit at this sad time.

"A Home Office post mortem will be carried out to establish the cause of death.

"I would ask any drivers in the area who saw anything, or who may have dashcam footage which could help our inquiries, to come forward. Any footage, or information, could be vital in establishing exactly what has occurred."
