A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being found with a serious head injury on a night out in Liverpool. It happened on Mathew Street on Sunday night.

The 24-year-old victim was found on the pavement outside the bar by paramedics having suffered a serious head injury.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance and is currently in a critical but stable condition at Walton Neurological Centre.

It is not known how the man suffered the head injury, however, detectives believe he had been involved in an argument at the bar with a man and woman a few minutes earlier and all three had been asked to leave the Quarry Quarter by door staff.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who was either inside the bar at around 11.30pm, stood outside or passing by and witnessed anything significant that could help them establish what exactly happened.

A 54-year-old man from Walton and a 26-year-old man from Croxteth, have been arrested on suspicion of assault, however, officers are still keen for people with information to come forward.
