Man dies after being knocked down by car on the Formby bypass
The cyclist, who was in his 70s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene
A man has died after being knocked off his bike on the Formby bypass.
Officers were called to the junction of the Formby bypass/North End Lane at 11.05am this morning (Tuesday 15th) following reports of a collision involving a cyclist and a BMW car.
The cyclist, a man in his 70s, was injured during the collision and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting with enquiries.
Serious collision investigator Sergeant Steve Smith said:
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the gentleman who sadly passed away following the collision.
“Our enquiries remain ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who was travelling along the Formby bypass, close to the junction of North End Lane, who saw the collision at just after 11am or captured anything significant on their dash cam to contact us.
“The Formby bypass will remain closed for a period of time as our investigation continues and we would urge motorists to find an alternative route.
“We would like to thank people for their patience while this incident is dealt with.”
