Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service (MFRS) have confirmed a man has died in a fire at the Brook View Care Home on the Aintree University Hospital campus.

They were called to reports of a fire at the site on Longmoor Lane at around 10.20am yesterday (Sunday 28th November).

Three fire engines were sent to the scene, and crews arrived to find one resident already outside the building suffering from smoke inhalation.

North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) were at the scene to provide medical treatment.

After reports of a person still being inside, firefighters immediately proceeded to the flat and gained entry, with four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus fighting the fire with a high pressure hose reel and searching the flat for occupants.

The fire was extinguished, but during their search, firefighters discovered the body of a man at the property. His next of kin have been informed by Merseyside Police and are being supported by a family liaison officer.

Three members of staff were treated by NWAS at the scene for light smoke inhalation with one taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

A joint investigation is taking place with Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service and Merseyside Police to try and figure out what caused the blaze.
