Man dies after van hit by debris in Netherton

A passenger in a van was fatally injured at the Switch Island/Dunningsbridge Road junction earlier

A man in his 50s has died after debris hit the windscreen of a vehicle at Switch Island, Netherton, earlier today.

Police and paramedics were called at around 2:10pm. The man, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver wasn't hurt.

The man's next of kin have been made aware and are receiving support from specialist officers.

Officers are now looking for witnesses or anyone who captured dashcam footage of what happened.

Sergeant Amy Murray, of Merseyside Police said: “This is a very tragic incident and our sympathies go out to the family and friends of the passenger and anyone else who has been affected.

“I would ask anyone who was in the area of Switch Island/Dunningsbridge Road, heading towards Aintree, from Maghull, at around 2pm who saw anything or captured anything significant on their dash cam to contact us as they may have information which is vital to our enquiries.”
