Man dead following Netherton crash

Two men have been arrested

Merseyside Police have confirmed a man has died after a crash in Netherton yesterday evening (Wednesday 19 July).

At around 11.10pm, emergency services were called to Northern Perimeter Road to reports of a collision involving a red Vauxhall Astra and an orange Honda motorbike.

Paramedics treated the motorbike rider, a man aged in his 40s, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two men, aged 49 and 22, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit. They remain in police custody for questioning.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from the MATRIX Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We have launched an investigation following the death of a man in a road traffic collision last night.

“His next-of-kin have been informed, and our specially trained officers are supporting them at this extremely difficult time and our thoughts are very much with them.

“Although we have made two arrests in connection with the collision, we urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage, including information or footage prior to the collision, which will assist in the investigation to please get in touch.”

Road closures are in place along Northern Perimeter Road while collision investigation work is carried out. We ask motorists to avoid the area today, thank you for your patience while we deal with this incident.
