Man charged over fatal car fire on M57

A man has been charged over a fatal car fire on the M57.

The motorway was closed in both directions on Wednesday (10 September) when a black Audi A5 came off the road and burst into flames close to junctions 2 and 3.

Police confirmed a driver, a man in his 60s, died at the scene.

It is believed there was an incident prior to the collision involving a dark coloured VW Golf.

John Butler, 31, of Shaftesbury Avenue, in Kirkby, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and dangerous driving.

He has been remanded and due to appear at Liverpool Magistrate’s Court this morning (Friday 12 September).
