Detectives are appealing for information following a report of a robbery where a man was attacked by a group of boys in Birkenhead.

At around 9.45pm on Saturday 16 September it was a reported that a man was walking along a field between Corporation Road and Cleveland Street when he was approached by a group of boys who assaulted him.

A driver of a passing car stopped the attack after he shouted at the group of males who ran away from the area. The victim then ran to a property nearby and reported the incident.

It was also reported that the victim’s watch was taken during the attack.

The man suffered bruises to his face and stomach and was left very distressed after the incident.

Officers are continuing their investigations after carrying out CCTV and house-to-house enquiries in the area.

Detective Inspector Dave Sung said: “This was a violent, unprovoked attack on a man who was just walking home after a night out.

“Our residents in the area will understandably be concerned by this incident and let me reassure them that we are taking this extremely seriously.

“We are committed in apprehending anyone who causes violence on our streets and there will be a visible police presence in the area.

“I would ask people who live in the area to check their doorbell or CCTV footage just in case they may have captured something which may be vital to the case. Also if you saw the incident take place or were driving by please check your dashcam footage if you have any and contact police.” Hear all the latest news from across the UK on the hour, every hour, on Greatest Hits Radio on DAB, at greatesthitsradio.co.uk, and on the Greatest Hits Radio app.
