Police have released cctv of a woman they'd like to speak to after a man was assaulted in Liverpool city centre. The 23 year old had been walking with friends near to Boodles on Lord Street at around 2.40am on Sunday 16 August, when they saw a young woman sat on the floor in a doorway.

They have asked the woman if she was okay and when she confirmed she was the man asked her for a light for his cigarette.

At this point a man got out of the rear of a VW Golf which was stopped on Lord Street, approached the 23-year-old and punched him to the head.

The victim fell to the floor and hit his head on the pavement. He has sustained a serious head injury from the incident and is currently in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

The driver of the car, a 31 year-old man, has been arrested and bailed in relation to the incident. The offender, a 26 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is currently in police custody.

Officers have now released CCTV images of the woman on Lord Street that the victim spoke to as they believe she may have witnessed the incident and can assist them with their enquiries.

Detective Inspector Sarah Kenwright said: This was an apparently unprovoked assault which has left the victim with a significant injury.

“Whilst the stills are a little blurred it is hoped the images may prompt the female to realise it’s her.”

“A number of other members of the public were in the location at the time the man was assaulted and I would urge them to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact St Anne Street CID on 0151 777 4065.
