Man arrested on suspicion of murdering pensioner in Old Swan

A 37 year-old's been arrested on suspicion of murder, after an elderly man died with a head injury last night.

Merseyside Police say were contacted at 11.50pm on Wednesday 29th December, following reports of a domestic incident at a house on Woodhall Road in Old Swan.

Patrols attended and found a 79 year-old man collapsed with a head injury. CPR was commenced and the North West Ambulance Service attended but the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem will take place to establish the cause of death and an investigation is underway. CCTV and house-to-house enquiries are being carried out in the local area.

A 37 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently detained.

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Wilkinson said:

“The investigation is in the very early stages as we seek to establish what has happened.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Woodhall Road late last evening who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact to us as they may have information which is vital to our investigation.”
