A woman is fighting for her life in hospital after reports of a domestic assault in Liverpool.

Officers were called to Pythian Close in Kensington just before 8.25pm (Saturday 31st May 2025), to reports a woman in her 30s had sustained injuries to her chest and face after an assault in the street.

A 48-year-old man from Kensington has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and taken into custody for questioning.

The woman who was injured is in hospital in a critical condition.

Detective Inspector Leanne Toole from Merseyside Police said:

“A woman has been left with extremely serious injuries as a result of this incident.

“Every report of domestic abuse is treated extremely seriously by Merseyside Police, and detectives will conduct an extensive investigation into this assault.

“Officers who attended made a swift arrest, and I hope every arrest we make reassures victims that their reports will be taken seriously. We are determined to put domestic abuse offenders before the courts to protect vulnerable people across Merseyside.

“Detectives are speaking to potential witnesses at the scene and exploring all CCTV and doorbell footage opportunities in the local area as we seek to get a full understanding of what took place, and I would appeal to anyone with information to get in touch.”
