Man arrested and meat cleaver recovered in Liverpool city centre
Police rushed to the scene on Monday evening
A man has been arrested and a meat cleaver recovered in Liverpool city centre.
Police were called at 6pm on Monday 27 May following reports of a male acting in an aggressive manner around the area of Renshaw Street and Leece Street. It is believed the man was armed with a bladed weapon.
A 48-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested a short time later on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
Officers also recovered a meat cleaver, though there are no reports the weapon was used to injure anyone.
Chief Inspector Andy Hughes said: “We have recently seen the positive results of a successful week of action as part of Sceptre which aims to reduce and prevent knife crime on the streets of Merseyside.
“We are consistently working to reduce and disrupt serious violence and remove dangerous weapons from our streets.
“The public play a vital role in helping us to do this. If you have any information including who is carrying, using, or storing knives or weapons, please come forward so we can continue to disrupt offenders and bring them to justice.”
