Man arrested after fire rips through former Liverpool bar

A 22 year old is being held on suspicion of arson

A man's been arrested on suspicion of arson after a large fire in Liverpool City Centre.

At around 1.40am, officers became aware of smoke coming from a building on Brownlow Hill, formerly the bar Smokie Mo's and detained the suspect nearby.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service remain in attendance and people are advised to avoid the area as road closures remain in place.

A 22-year-old man of no fixed abode has been taken into custody for questioning.
