M53 currently closed after woman's death

The M53 is currently closed between Eastham and Bebington after the death of a woman this morning.

Officers were called around 1am this mornimng today following reports the woman had fallen from a bridge onto the southbound carriageway at junction 4.

It's believed she may then have been struck by a vehicle.

Police say the woman who is yet to be formally identified was pronounced dead at the scene.

The motorway is currently closed between Junctions 4 & 5 in both directions while an investigation into the incident is underway.

It's likely to remain closed until this afternoon. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
