The A562 Speke Road in Widnes is closed Westbound, after Police were called to reports of a crash this morning (Friday 3 December).

An HGV collided with a gantry near to the Hale Road slip road just after 6.30am.

Cheshire Police have confirmed there are no reports of any injuries but recovery work will need to take place and the gantry will need to be checked for structural stability.

The westbound carriageway is currently closed and a number of diversions are in place, including:

• The A533 Mersey Gateway Bridge is closed westbound from the Queensway junction. Traffic is diverted via Queensway onto the M62.

• The Silver Jubilee Bridge is closed northbound. Traffic is diverted via Waterloo Road, onto Queensway and then onto the M62.

Emergency Services are working hard to clear the closure as soon as possible but the road is expected to be closed for several hours.
