Liverpool Women Among 'Least Likely' To Book A Smear Test

A cancer charity's claiming women on Merseyside are among the worst in the country for avoiding smear tests for cervcial cancer.

The latest figures from the Health & Social Care Information Centre claim out of 123'000 people across Liverpool eligible for screening - 67% took up the offer. The national average is 73.5%

Robert Music, the Chief Executive from Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust says many women are finding it difficult to attend an appointment for a variety of reasons.

He said: "For working women, they struggle to book time off work, and others struggle to book appointments.

"It ranges from embarrasement, fear, worried about the results. Our results show that many people think it's a test to show cancer when it's not"
