A Liverpool teenager who had cardiac arrest on the football pitch has told Radio City that help from players and a defibrillator is reason he's still alive
18 year old Anthony Jacobs collapsed while playing for Yew Tree FC at Simonswood Lane pitches in Kirkby last weekend.
While they waited for an ambualance, players gathered round and took turns to perform CPR.
His heart completely stopped beating for half an hour.
When paramedics arrived, they used a defiblirator, and Anthony responded on the way to hospital.
He's now set to make a full recovery and says he had a lucky escape.
"Without and the work of the players I wouldn't be here today. It just shows how much of a good job they did because my heart started beating as soon as they used the defiblirator"
"It saved my life and so did the people there that day"
Anthony's now set to have a defiblerator implanted. As a result he's unable to contiue with rugby or football.
"I'm going to carried on with my sport, obviously coaching, I'm always going to be interested in that, and I'm going to carry it on hopefully for the rest of my life"
Anthony and his family now hope his story will highlight how important defiblerators and the proper understand of first aid is.
Mum Maxine said:
"There's so many stories over recent years about people who have gone through exactly the same and haven't made it. We're hearing about it way too often. Something needs to be put in place. I'd like to see first aid mandatory.
"Defiblirators are so important, there needs to be more of them on site"
