Liverpool's status as safe city threatend by security staff shortage
Business for bars and nightclubs is up 30% but there are 40% fewer door staff
It's feared a shortage of security staff could threaten Liverpool's status as one of the safest cities in the country.
Bars and nightclubs here are 30% busier than before the pandemic, but with door staff out of work through covid, we're hearing many who found jobs elsewhere haven't come back.
Longer waiting lists for new staff to be processed means it's taking up to 4 months for license applications to come through.
John Hughes is CEO of Liverpool Nightlife :
"There is enough people there that want the jobs but unfortuantely you need badges. In the long run we might have to work with the SIA to try to get more personnel through quicker because the last thing we want in our bars and restaurants is not to have enough staff on working.
"The main issue for us is the streets and getting Police numbers up because they're struggling with the amount of people who are coming into town. We'd like to see enough staff to protect what we have in Liverpool at the moment because as far as I'm concerned we are the greatest city in the world".
